How are lessons structured?
All lessons are one-on-one (one tutor is assigned to teach one student) and are conducted on a weekly basis via Google Meet. Our tutors help with homework, as well as create individualized lesson plans that target your child’s specific academic needs. These personalized lesson plans cover key components of English learning, such as reading, writing, communication, and listening.
How often are lessons?
Lessons are scheduled once or twice a week, and the amount of hours per lesson depends on your child’s needs. Although having one 1-hour lesson every week has proven to be beneficial for all students, we have seen greater success rates for students who attend two 1-hour lessons every week, especially for students who are in grades 9 to 12.
How do payments work?
Payments are made one month in advance and e-transfer requests are sent out on the first day of the month (or on the second day if the first is a holiday). By paying for lessons in advance, your child is agreeing to attend the lessons scheduled for that month.
Do I have to sign a contract?
You do not need to sign a contract, but your child is obligated to attend their lessons on time on the days prearranged at the start of the month. Please read the next FAQ to know more about rescheduled, cancelled, and missed lessons.
What happens if my child misses or needs to cancel and/or reschedule a lesson?
The Literary Tutor must be given a 24-hour notice of absence in order to reschedule or refund a lesson. If we are not notified 24 hours in advance, the lesson will be counted as a missed lesson and no refund will be given. Since our tutors prepare lessons beforehand, we cannot grant refunds for cancellations made at the last minute.
However, if you cancel a lesson 24-hours in advance and do not want to reschedule, the payment for that lesson will be refunded or transferred over to the following month’s invoice.
What are your tutors’ qualifications?
The Literary Tutor will match your child with qualified educators with years of teaching experience under their belt. Our tutors are Ontario certified teachers and experienced tutors with English and Education degrees and accredited TOESL and TOEFL certifications.
Do you assign homework?
Tutors assign weekly tasks, depending on your child’s needs. However, homework is not mandatory. The purpose of the weekly tasks is to encourage your child to continue their reading and writing practices on a regular basis. After all, practice makes perfect!
