Shakespeare 101
For many students, reading a Shakespearean play or poem is like piecing together a hopeless puzzle of archaic words. They wonder why students today are forced to study the writings of an English man who lived 500 years ago and wonder how they could possibly relate to stories about kings, fairies, and donkeys.
Shakespeare’s stories transcend time, and with enough background knowledge, we can learn much about ourselves and human nature through his writings.
